Today I remembered a very good movie, the kind that is enough to watch once and you cannot get it out of your mind.And yes, there’s always an event or a detail that brings it back to the surface of thoughts. All of a sudden making you want to re-watch it.
Sadly I cannot tell you if there are any differences between the novel and the book. I haven’t read it yet, although I have seen the movie many times. I cannot even find it in libraries. It’s sold out everywhere!
I’m talking about the autobiographic novel that received the Goncourt Award in 1984. The Lover became an amazing cinematic piece later on.
L’amant or The Lover
A young fifteen year old girl, wearing a silk dress in color of milk coffee and rum, is leaning on the ferryboat rail. She is wearing a man’s hat, which she never parts with. The wind blows over her dress, revealing slowly the smooth skin.
It’s the first image that comes to my mind when I remember the movie. And after that, the love scenes, full of erotic details, that stimulate.
The young girl comes from a poor and dysfunctional family. A problematic mother that take the side of her depraved, delinquent son. She constantly ignores her and her other brother, favoring the latter despite he keeps provoking fights in the family.
On the ferry that goes to Saigon, where she studies, she meets a Chinese man. He is wealthy, so he offers her a ride in his limo to the destination.
In between the mixed smells of China Town, next to the chaotic market, their love affair is being consumed in his room. A bachelor’s chamber, with shutters that barely make light in the room.

Look around you well.

It is like always.”
Azi mi-am amintit de un film foarte bun, genul acela de filme pe care atunci când le vezi odată, nu ţi-l mai poţi scoate din minte. Şi dacă da, întotdeauna o întâmplare, ceva, ţi-l conturează iar în memorie. Ca apoi să te trezeşti că vrei să-l revezi.
Din păcate nu pot să vă spun dacă între nuvelă şi film există diferenţe. Încă n-am citit-o, deşi am privit filmul acesta de atâtea ori.
E vorba de nuvela semi-autobiografică The Lover, care a luat premiul Goncourt în 1984, şi a devenit ulterior o peliculă de cinema superbă.
L’amant (Amantul)
O tânără de cincisprezece ani într-o rochie mătăsoasă de culoarea cafelei cu lapte şi rom stă rezemată de bariera feribotului. Poartă o pălărie bărbătească, de care nu se desparte niciodată. Vântul îi suflă peste decolteu, dezvelindu-i uşor carnea fină.
E prima imagine care îmi vine în minte când îmi amintesc de film.
Apoi scenele de dragoste, extrem de erotice, cu detalii care incită ochiul.
Tănăra provine dintr-o familie săracă şi pe deasupra disfuncţioanlă, cu o mamă cu probleme, ce ţine partea fiului depravat, delicvent, care adesea provoacă certuri, fără a lua în seamă pe celălalt fiu sau pe fiica ei.
Pe feribotul care o duce spre Saigon, acolo unde studiază, întâlneşte un bărbat chinez, înstărit, care se oferă să o ducă cu limuzina sa până la destinaţie.
În mirosul Oraşului Chinezesc, într-o zarvă exterioară, aventura amoroasă a celor doi începe într-o cameră a „celibatarului” cu obloane prin care lumina abia că pătrunde în încăpere.
